Designing with ALDO: Colouring Book

What does a typical day look like as a designer?

Designing is a fluid and ever-evolving process. "Every day is different,” says Mariana. “The process often begins with research, brainstorming, and dreaming up colour and material combinations, before we start to put these ideas to paper or by creating digital CADs of shoes.” The drawings are then transformed into prototypes, but according to Tara, “Designing and creating is always ongoing. There are always new sketches or ideas that pop up every day, which keeps it exciting!
  • Do you have tips and tricks for aspiring designers at home?

Three main takeaways: 1) Just start creating 2) Learn new technical skills and programs, 3) Listen and be true to yourself. Tara believes, "You need to create, create, create! Make something from scratch and to understand the construction, practice your sketching (pen to paper!) and sign up for a class to learn programs like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.” She continues, “These are essential tools needed to communicate your ideas, so perfecting them takes time." Mariana encourages, "Stay creative without forcing your creative process. Write down all of your ideas and don't be afraid to try new things or techniques."
  • How do you stay inspired?

“Inspiration is everywhere, whether you are scrolling through your social media feeds, or even the new favourite pastime; taking a stroll through the city,” says Enzo. “It is vital to stay on top of trends and keep a pulse on what is happening in the fashion sphere.” Designing and creating is a continuous process. From new sketches, to material swatches and colour ideas, keeping an open mind helps to keep our styles fresh!

What is your favourite part of being a designer?

“Making something that connects you to other people and gives them confidence to live their best lives is one of the best things about doing what I do,” says Tara.
