From cleaning out your closet to purging pairs that no longer fit, Give Back Box rehomes your gently used items to reduce the amount of shoes that ends up in landfills. This program not only ensures a second life for your shoes and/or other donation items, but better still - shipping is free and easy.
Question: What is the impact of reusing a single article of clothing?
Answer: Repurposing one used item, reduces its carbon footprint by 82%.*
The carbon savings of 82% is based on a reused garment as per the Green Story Environmental Study. Independent research firm, Green Story Inc. was contracted to calculate the environmental savings from reuse of secondhand garments sold by thredUP. The study compared the environmental burden of purchasing a brand-new garment with that of reusing an average garment sold by thredUP across all stages of the garment’s lifecycle. The savings were calculated across three areas: greenhouse gas emissions, energy use and water consumption. The study followed international ISO 14040 LCA standard.
How did Give Back Box start?
Monika Wiela is the founder and visionary behind Give Back Box. Born and raised in Poland, Monika has loved shoes for as long as she can remember. Case in point – she moved to the United States to pursue her passion in business and open an online shoe store. A chance encounter with an individual without housing touched her, making her rethink her mission. She recalls, “This man really needed shoes. As a shoe store owner, I wanted to help, but I was selling only women's shoes. My desire to help, inspired an idea – what if any online shopper could send back something no longer in use to aid others?” The Give Back Box was born.
ALDO x Give Back Box
Monika considers the ALDO x Give Back Box partnership a milestone for her mission. Joining forces and helping those in need, most recently the victims of the war in Ukraine, fuels Monika to keep going. In her own words, “Helping is one of the biggest pleasures of my life. When you help -you feel fearless. Courage and confidence come easily when you give.”
Be part of the wave. Monika sees giving back as surfing a tide of goodness. Her hope for the future is to grow the program so every box has the possibility of being a Give Back Box. She attributes positivity and persistence to her ability to strive toward this incredible goal. As she sees it, “When you do what you love, you are never really working. Giving back is central to my life.”
