The Aldo Group Inc. and Aldo U.S. Inc. (collectively “Aldo”,we”,our”,us”) strive to be transparent about the information we collect about you, and how we use and share it. That is why we encourage you to take a moment to read our Privacy Policy before interacting with us. 

What is the Privacy Policy and what does it cover? 

This Policy applies to all interactions with us in Canada and the United States, including through our websites at https://www.aldoshoes.com/ca/en and https://www.aldoshoes.com/us/en_US (the “Websites”), our social media accounts, brick-and-mortar stores, marketing initiatives, in-person events, and with our customer support staff (together “Services”).

Finally, this Policy does not apply to the personal information of our employees or candidates. In addition, this Policy does not apply to the website, stores, or practices of any third parties, including our service providers outlined below, like Shopify. These third parties have their own terms and policies, which we encourage you to review for details on how they process your personal information. 

 

What information do we collect? 

Below is a list of the categories of Information we may collect depending on our interactions with you with examples to illustrate: 

Primary Data: first name, last name. 

Contact Data: mailing address, email address, phone number. 

Specific Data: date of birth, gender. 

Account Data: loyalty program ID, username, password, answers to security questions. 

Social Media Data: social media contacts, other information posted on account including photos. 

Identification Data: First Nations status cards. As outlined below, Aldo will verify this information only to apply eligible discounts.  

Preference Data: information about your communication language, favourite products, collection preference (e.g., Men’s / Women’s), reactions to our marketing campaigns. 

Payment Data: information required to make a purchase such as your credit card details. 

Transactional Data: purchase history, transaction ID, shipping information, saved checkout information, shopping cart items. 

Survey Data: participation in polls, surveys, or contests, comments, requests, and questions, or information included in the relevant chat, email, or other communication with us which may include nationality, ethnicity, generation, marital status, family status, economic status. 

User-Generated Content: product reviews, words, pictures, images, video, or other content you upload, post, or share via our Websites and Services, or via third-party websites and platforms including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, Google, YouTube, Pinterest, and Snapchat. If you choose to submit User-Generated Content to any public area of our Services, it will be public and accessible by anyone. We do not control who will have access to User-Generated Content that you choose to make available to others and cannot ensure that parties who have access to such information will respect your privacy or keep it secure. We are not responsible for the privacy or security of any information that you make publicly available, or for the accuracy, use or misuse of any information that you disclose or receive from third parties. Log & Usage Data: browser type and version, operating system and interface, used device, language preference, the website from which you are visiting us (referrer URL), webpage(s) you are visiting, date and time of your visit, IP address or part of IP address, your navigation history on our Websites, your interaction with the live chat features including a recording of any such sessions, the pages you access before and after accessing the Services, search terms, search history, frequency of use of the Services. 

Location Data: approximate location information based on your IP address. 

Surveillance & Security Data: images from surveillance and security cameras at our stores. Subject to applicable laws, we will ensure that signs are displayed at the entrance of the surveillance zone to alert you that your image may be recorded. Image Data: photographs taken at events, submitted by you or when you visit our stores. 

 

How do we use your information? 

We process your information for various purposes, as outlined in the tables below. Our main objectives are to provide and improve our products and Services, and to support the operation of our business. By providing your information, you confirm that it is accurate. Otherwise, we may not be able to deliver our products and Services to you. 

Depending on where you live, we may process your information under different legal frameworks. In Canada, we rely primarily on your consent, which you may withdraw at any time through our Privacy Preferences page. If you reside in the United States, please refer to our Annex [link] for detailed information on how we handle information under applicable U.S. laws. 


Online Shopping 

When shopping online through our Websites, we may collect your information for the following purposes either directly from you or from authorized third parties that support our Services, such as Shopify:

We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 14. How do we share your information? 

We share your information with third parties where necessary to fulfil the purposes identified above, including as set forth in the table below:  

 

We may also share your information with authorized third parties and partners who provide us with services such as security, maintenance, website hosting, payment processing, fraud prevention, delivery, returns, marketing, chat bots, and data storage. Please note that these providers may use automated tools and technologies to deliver their services. 

To illustrate, here are some of the service providers we partner with: 

Shopify 

Our Websites are powered by Shopify. When you browse our Websites, Shopify may process your information independently, namely as described in the table below. By proceeding, you understand and agree to Shopify’s Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Consumer Privacy Policy 

 

By selecting “Remember me” at checkout, Shopify will automatically create a Shop account and keep a secure copy of your contact and payment information so Shop Pay can autofill future checkouts on any Shopify store you visit. 

You may contact Shopify Support at any time to ask about, make a request relating to, or complain about how they process your personal information. You can also access, delete, and manage how Shopify uses your personal information directly through Shopify’s Privacy controls. Finally, you may also delete your Shop Pay account by submitting a request directly to Shopify. 

 

Stripe

Stripe is the third-party payment provider appointed by Shopify who may process your personal information, namely as described in the table below:

Rokt

We use Rokt to present advertisements to users on the purchase confirmation page of our Websites. Rokt offers personalized ads based on the data they collect and the information we share with them, including currency, amount, payment method, email, postal code, city, state, and country. This means that the advertisements you see during the checkout process are tailored to your interests and preferences. For more information, see Rokt’s Privacy Policy. 

 

Happy Returns

We use Happy Returns, who operates its own independent platform, to process eligible online returns. When initiating an online return, you will be redirected from our Websites to the Happy Returns environment. By proceeding with an online return, you acknowledge the Terms of Use and Privacy Statement of Happy Returns who may use your information in accordance with their own privacy practices. 

If you prefer not to use the online return process, you may complete your return at one of our physical stores. 

 

How do we transfer your information?

Your information may be held at our offices in Quebec, Canada, and those of the authorized third parties described above. Some of these third parties may be based or share your information outside of your region, mainly within Canada and the United States. By submitting information to us, you consent to the communication of your information to, and the storage of that information, outside of your region. While such information is outside of your region, it is subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is held, and may be subject to disclosure to the governments, courts or law enforcement or regulatory agencies of such other jurisdictions pursuant to local laws. However, our practices regarding your information will continue to be governed by this Privacy Policy.  

Where applicable we comply with legal requirements to provide adequate protection for the transfer of information to third regions.

How do we secure and keep your information? 

We implement physical, administrative and technical safeguards designed to preserve the confidentiality, integrity and security of information under our control. However, information transmitted on the Internet or stored on systems attached to the Internet is not 100% secure, and no security measures can provide absolute protection. As a result, we do not ensure, warrant or guarantee the security or integrity of such information.  

We take steps to ensure that only those who need access to your information to perform their duties have access to it. 

We retain your information only for as long as is necessary for us to fulfil the purposes specified in this Policy and to comply with our legal obligations. 

 

What are your rights regarding your information? 

Subject to applicable data protection laws, you may have certain rights concerning your personal information. Applicable rights can be exercised by submitting a written request along with valid proof of identity. Depending on your place of residence, you may have some or all of the following rights:

  • The right to access your personal information;
  • The right to correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal information;
  • The right to withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal information; 
  • The right to request the deletion of your personal information or to control its dissemination;
  • The right to data portability, meaning you can request that your personal information be provided to you or a third party in a commonly used, machine-readable format;
  • The right to be informed about, and to provide input on, automated decision-making processes, or to request human review of such decisions;
  • The right to opt out of profiling and targeted advertising. Please note that in Canada, we will not process your personal information for these purposes without first obtaining your express consent;
  • The right to request information about how we collect, use, and share your personal information. 

Finally, you also have a right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection authority, in particular in the region where you normally reside, where we are based or where an alleged infringement of data protection law has taken place, such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Commission d’accès à l’information in Quebec.

How will you know this Privacy Policy has changed? 

From time to time, we may update this Privacy Policy. Subject to applicable laws, we will notify you of these changes. Updates will be effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy was last updated as of the effective date listed at the top.

ALDO PRIVACY POLICY: UNITED STATES ANNEX 

 

This section applies to the personal information of residents of California and supplements the other sections of the Privacy Policy. 

In this section, the terms “personal information” and “sale” or “sell” have the same definitions as in the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA”). 

Collection and Use of Personal Information 

We may collect personal information directly from you, automatically from your devices when using the Services, or from third-party sources, as described in the “Information We Collect” section above. We have collected the following categories of personal information about you in the past 12 months:

  • Identifiers, such as name, postal address, email address, phone number, IP address, and account login credentials, or other similar identifiers
  • Characteristics of protected classifications under California or federal law, such as racial/ethnic origin, sex/gender, and age
  • Commercial information, such as products or services purchased, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies
  • Internet or other electronic network activity information, such as browsing history, search history, and information regarding an individual’s interaction with an internet website application or advertisement
  • Geolocation data, such as approximate geolocation based on your IP address
  • Audio, electronic, visual, thermal, olfactory, or similar information, such as your foot images or photos of you at events or in our stores
  • Inferences drawn from other personal information, such as a profile reflecting your preferences, behavior, or interests  

We also have collected “sensitive personal information,” as defined by the CCPA, in limited circumstances: when you complete a survey, you may choose to provide your race or ethnic origin or other protected class characteristics; when you create a Sperry account, we collect your username, password, and credentials to access that account; when you file an incident report in one of our stores, we may collect information about your health or physical condition as relevant to the incident; and when you indicate you are tax-exempt, we will ask for your tax ID or relevant information to support this status. Please note that we only use and disclose sensitive personal information for purposes permitted by California law.

Disclosure of Personal Information 

We may disclose your personal information to third parties for the business purposes outlined in the “How We Disclose Your Personal information” section of this Policy. While we do not sell your personal information in exchange for money, our Online Services and Marketing Services use cookies and similar technologies in ways that are considered “sales” or “sharing” under the CCPA (and other U.S. state privacy laws) even though no money changes hands and no payments are made (see Section 2 above for more details about cookies and similar technologies).  

In the preceding twelve (12) months, we may have “sold” or “shared” your personal information, or disclosed it for a business purpose, to the following categories of recipients: 

 

Children’s Privacy 

Our Online Services are general audience sites, and it is our intention that they should only be used only by persons over the age of 16. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under the age of 16. 


Retention of Personal Information 

We will retain your personal information for as long as we have a relationship with you. Once our relationship with you has come to an end, we will retain your personal information for a period of time that enables us to:

  • Comply with record retentions requirements under applicable law
  • Meet our legal obligations including financial, accounting, tax, or export obligations
  • Defend or bring any existing or potential legal claims
  • Maintain business records for internal purposes, such as in connection with analyses or audits
  • Enforce security standards and protect against unauthorized access or fraud
  • Resolve or otherwise address any complaints or queries relating to the Services 

We will delete your personal information when it is no longer required for these purposes. If there is any information that we are unable to delete entirely from our systems for technical reasons, we will put in place appropriate measures to prevent any further processing or use of the information. 


California Privacy Rights 

Under the CCPA, if you are a California resident, you may have the right to: 

  • Right to Know: You have the right to request to know what personal information we have collected about you, including the categories of personal information, the categories of sources from which the personal information is collected, the business or commercial purpose for collecting, selling, or sharing personal information, the categories of third parties to whom we disclose personal information, and the specific pieces of personal information that we have collected about you.
  • Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete any of your personal information that we collected from you and retained, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: You have the right to request that we correct personal information that we maintain about you.
  • Right to Opt-out of Sales/Sharing: You have the right to opt-out of the sale or sharing of your personal information by us.
  • Right to Limit: You have the right to limit our use or disclosure of your sensitive personal information to certain purposes.
  • Right to Non-discrimination: You have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of your CCPA rights.

In order for us to verify your request, we need to verify your identity, so the request should include your name, address, and email address, along with a clear indication of the right(s) you wish to exercise. Please note that we may require additional information from you in order to honor your requests. 

You may also use an authorized agent to act on your behalf to submit requests to exercise your rights. We will honor a request from an authorized agent provided that (i) you provide written authorization to the authorized agent to act on your behalf and we can verify your identity, and (ii) the agent submits proof of authorization. Authorized agents may use the same methods noted above to submit requests on your behalf.
