In 2013, we calculated our carbon footprint and set ourselves a baseline for improvement. Since then, we have improved the energy efficiency of our offices and corporate stores, resulting in a 46% reduction of our greenhouse gas emissions in only five years by converting store lighting to 100% LED technology, implementing Energy Management Systems (EMS) that control lighting and ventilation and sourcing renewable energy. Simultaneously we implemented organization-wide initiatives to reduce business travel, packaging and product transport emissions.
To offset the remainder of our non-avoidable emissions, we invest in high-quality carbon credits that support wind, solar and hydropower projects located in regions where we operate. In turn, these projects create jobs locally and support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
