We Are Climate Neutral
Climate change is happening. Now more than ever, the choices we make impact the environment. That’s why we are continuously focusing on reducing our carbon footprint. In 2018, the ALDO Group was the first fashion footwear and accessories company in the world to be certified climate neutral. One year later, we are extending our climate commitment to include all eCommerce and product transportation carbon emissions from production to end customer.
In 2013, we calculated our carbon footprint and set ourselves a baseline for improvement. Since then, we have improved the energy efficiency of our offices and corporate stores, resulting in a 46% reduction of our greenhouse gas emissions in only five years by converting store lighting to 100% LED technology, implementing Energy Management Systems (EMS) that control lighting and ventilation and sourcing renewable energy. Simultaneously we implemented organization-wide initiatives to reduce business travel, packaging and product transport emissions.
To offset the remainder of our non-avoidable emissions, we invest in high-quality carbon credits that support wind, solar and hydropower projects located in regions where we operate. In turn, these projects create jobs locally and support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Fighting global warming and climate changeIn 2018, South Pole, a world-leading developer of climate action projects, certified the ALDO Group as climate neutral according to South Pole's climate neutral company label criteria. The ALDO Group offsets 100% of the carbon emissions of its corporate stores, offices and distribution centers.
Not stopping there: our bold next stepThe next step is to extend our commitment to the planet by offsetting more carbon emissions: all our eCommerce shipments and product transportation emissions are now included in the scope of our Climate Neutral certification, alongside with other emissions from business travel, packaging and waste.
Looking aheadWe are excited to announce that our new, ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goal was approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. This initiative is in line with what climate science says is needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise to well-below 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels. By 2030, our ambitious goal is to cut carbon emissions across our operations by 40% and down per pair of shoe by 30%, compared to its 2016 levels. This long-term target is a true reflection of our company’s commitment to the planet.
